Preamble

Out of Many, One.

In the summer of 1787, a small group of delegates in Philadelphia wrote a constitution they knew was imperfect. On the day it was signed, Benjamin Franklin agreed to it “with all its faults.” So they wrote Article V, a way to correct those faults, and left the correcting to the generations that followed. The Great Seal had already named what they hoped to build.

ReDrafting America was established in Philadelphia, in the 250th year of American independence, to take up that unfinished work in the open. Its work is Constitution v2.0. It is researched in public, drafted in plain language, reviewed independently, and offered to the people it would govern for their judgment, not their obedience.

The Nonprofit is founded on one conviction:

Each generation is responsible for leaving the Republic stronger than it inherited.

An institution that asks a nation to reconsider its rules must first live honestly under its own. What follows is written in the language honesty requires: offices and duties, votes and thresholds, audits and independent review. That precision is not bureaucracy. It is how a promise becomes something that can be proven. These pages bind every Director who serves. No person is greater than this mission, including the one who began it.

These pages are also written for the Citizen reading them for the first time. The Citizen owes this institution nothing and is entitled to ask one thing of it:

Veritas Super Omnia. The Truth Above All Else.

Every commitment in these Bylaws is meant to be verified, not taken on faith. Decisions are made on the record, finances are open to inspection, and mistakes are preserved instead of erased. A Republic conceived as a light for other nations cannot be renewed by an institution that works in the dark.

The first question was answered in Philadelphia. These Bylaws are written for the question that comes after it.
