A Philadelphia native, U.S. Air Force veteran, and longtime infrastructure engineer, Todd McGuckin brings an unusual combination of technical and humanities education to Redrafting America.
Todd's technology career began in 1995 as a Macintosh support technician for a dial-up Internet provider. During his Air Force career, his curiosity led him through three very different fields: finance, pharmacy, and ultimately computer systems, where he supported technology used to help ensure military targeting operations complied with legal requirements and protected sites such as hospitals and schools.
While managing computer labs at Penn State, Todd was offered the opportunity to continue his education. Already holding a computer science degree from the Community College of the Air Force, he deliberately chose the humanities instead, earning a degree in Letters, Arts, and Sciences.
That combination of systems engineering and the humanities became foundational to Redrafting America. Todd approaches constitutional design as both an engineering and human challenge: understand the architecture, identify dependencies and failure modes, preserve what works, and thoughtfully redesign what doesn't—all while remembering that institutions ultimately exist to serve people.
Outside the Drafting Room: Todd tinkers with a 24U home server rack, loves WaveRunners and story-driven games, considers his cats Athena and Phaedra his daughters, lives on a diet of Cobb salads and cheesecake, and handles his inability to sing at karaoke by rapping “Bust a Move.”
